New Object for the Industrial Application Server now Released:

Wonderware is pleased to announce the release of the new Sequencer Object 1.0 for simplified control of sequential tasks for Supervisory and P&PM Solutions (downloadable from the  http://archestra.biz/ ).  The Sequencer Object is a new functional component for IAS that coordinates tasks that must be executed in a certain sequence or order of operation. As part of its operation, the Sequencer Object can also provide key information such as time of execution and duration of a task. These basic capabilities make the Sequencer Object a great fit for applications in manual as well as fully automated manufacturing lines.

The Sequencer Application Object is designed to configure, execute and manipulate a sequence of operations associated with attributes from multiple application objects running within an Industrial Application Server application (version 2.1 and higher). The Sequencer object exposes a comprehensive set of attributes that allows users to create SmartSymbols and regular InTouch animations to monitor and control the Sequencer operation.

What are some examples of how the Sequencer Object can be used?

  • Enforcing standard manufacturing procedures
In many factories, there may be a manual operation which must be monitored to make sure procedures are being adhered to. This is to make sure that the operator is doing the right things in the right order. The sequencer object can be used to instruct an operator on steps to take in addition to capturing specific data around the operational steps that were executed. This is helpful in implementing safe work practices, ensuring information is properly captured for compliance, reducing waste and implementing operational improvements. It also helps to increase consistency in machine setup operations for improved operational performance.

  • Coordinate physical action with logical actions
The Sequencer Object can coordinate a physical operator activity done on the production line with a logical activity that must happen in the software environment. An example of this might be where an operator needs to add a certain amount of material to a mixer, then save the results to a database before the next step can be executed. In some regulated industries, this is a requirement.

  • Adding context to raw data
This activity is a pure reporting and tracking of tasks. The Sequencer Object can be used to provide context, like what operations were executed, and how long did it take? This can help in transforming raw data into more meaningful information. A typical use of the Sequencer Object is as a simple single-path sequencer machine for a piece of equipment, eg. for different phases of a batching process.

  • Simplified way to set initial values for object instances
Sometimes it is necessary to set initial values in an operation dynamically based on different situations. Many times it is required to set these values in a specific order. An example of this might be setting the start sequence for a machine based on the type of machine being used. The Sequencer Object helps to reduce scripting which speeds time to completion of a project.

  • Integral Component of the upcoming Equipment Operations Module
The coming Equipment Operations Module, which combines PEM and FMM in addition to IAS/InSQL/SV, will leverage the sequencer object to perform coordination of activities related to execution of work assigned to a unit or product line.
The Sequencer Object can be used to download formula parameters in a specific order. This works very well with the Formula Management Module.

  • The Sequencer Object can be used to trigger PEM events at appropriate times.

Wonderware announces Phase 2 MSSQL Server 2005 Support

Wonderware is pleased to announce support of Microsoft’s SQL Server 2005 for InTouch 9.5 and the Industrial Application Server 2.1 with the recent release of the Patch 02 for InTouch 9.5 and Patch 01 for the Industrial Application Server 2.1. The patches are available for download on the Wonderware Technical Support website and are part of the upcoming Customer Support Shipment where they can be found on the New Suite Stuff CD.

Additionally, Wonderware will now include Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with product orders as well as in the FactorySuite Development and Runtime software media packages (Microsoft SQL Server 2000 will still be shipped alongside SQL Server 2005).
