Considerations when upgrading from InTouch 7.X to InTouch
8.0/9.0/9.5
Purpose:
This article
presents some notes of consideration when migrating from a Wonderware
FactorySuite 2000 InTouch 7.X application to the
FS ArchestrA InTouch 8.0/9.X application.
Software Installation:
-
If InTouch 7.X was previously
installed on the PC for the upgrade, it should be manually removed
using Wonderware Tech Note # 179 (not just by add/remove programs
alone). The TechNote is available on the Wonderware Tech Support
Site @
http://www.wonderware.com/support/mmi/comprehensive/kbcd/html/T000876.htm
-
Use the Wonderware Data Acquisition
Servers (DAS) with InTouch 8.0/9.X whenever possible. They are the
Next-Generation of IO Servers and are capable of being SuiteLink,
DDE, and OPC Servers. They
provide central management and diagnostics as part of the System
Management Console under DAServer Manager.
If there is not a DAS Server available for your IO device and you
must use a FactorySuite 2000 IO Server, make sure that the FS2000
software including the FS2000 Common Components is installed prior
to any FSA2 software. If InTouch 8.0/9.X is already installed on the
PC, uninstall InTouch via the InTouch 8.0/9.X CD and proceed with
installing the FS2000 common components and then InTouch 8.0/9.X.
Wonderware has produced a Tech Note, 313, that details the Common
Component Installation Requirement. The TechNote is available on the
Wonderware Tech Support Site @
http://www.wonderware.com/support/mmi/comprehensive/kbcd/html/t001125.htm
-
There are a series of add-in functions
that are available for InTouch that can be leveraged in your InTouch
application. If your application uses any of these functions, you
will need to include them in the new upgraded installation.
-
The InTouch Alarms are now stored in a
SQL Server or an MSDE database. Wonderware provides and installation
for MSDE and will need to be
installed for Historical Logging of alarms and events.
When installing MSDE, please ensure that the security model is set
to allow SQL Server Security.
Wonderware has produced a Tech Note, 335, that details the
installation procedure for the Microsoft Data Engine. The TechNote
is available on the Wonderware Tech Support Site @
http://www.wonderware.com/support/mmi/comprehensive/kbcd/html/t001165.htm
-
If you are using Windows XP Pro SP2 or
Windows 2003 SP1, the Wonderware OS Configuration Utility must be
run. This utility adds the required exceptions to the Windows
Firewall.
The utility is automatically run after the InTouch 9.x installation
but the utility is also available for download on the Wonderware
Tech Support Site @
http://www.wonderware.com/support/mmi/registered/patchfixes/OSConfigurationUtility.zip
Diagnostic Tools:
-
The WWLogger has been replaced by the
LogViewer in the System Management Console. From the Windows Task
bar, go to Start\Programs\Wonderware\System Management Console
(SMC). In the SMC, expand LogViewer\Default\Local; Click on Local
again and you should see the LogViewer text messages appear on the
right, similar to the WWLogger.
-
The WWCLIENT utility is not installed
by default with the FactorySuite A2 software components. It can be
installed from the Device Integration CD or is available for
download on the Wonderware Tech Support Site @
http://www.wonderware.com/support/mmi/comprehensive/kbcd/html/t002022.htm
Application Migration:
-
Remove
all KEYTRAP scripting from the original InTouch 7.X application
prior to going to WindowViewer in the InTouch 8.0/9.X version. If
the same PC is being used for InTouch 8.0/9.X, make sure the
keyboard driver is removed from the System32 folder. The KEYTRAP
function has been replaced, in InTouch 8.0/9.X, by the
EnableDisableKeys() script function for handling the enable and
disable of the ALT, ESC and Window Keys.
-
DocViewer, SQL
Grid, and Event Chart wizards are no longer supported in InTouch
8.0/9.X. Their functionality has been replaced
by newer ActiveX controls. However, if these wizards are contained
in the original application and you want to keep
them in your InTouch 8.0/9.X application, you must do the following:
-
Obtain a copy of InTouch 8.0 and
install it.
-
Install the Legacy Productivity
Pack zip file (from the Wonderware e-support website) to the
C:\Program Files\Wonderware\InTouch folder.
-
Install InTouch 9.X on top of
InTouch 8.0.
New Features Migration:
-
The alarming features in InTouch
8.0/9.X are the SAME as InTouch 7.11. More information on the
alarming features is in the InTouch Alarm Deployment Guide.
However, you cannot use an IT 7.11 WWAlmDB database with InTouch
8.0/9.X. You must either create a new WWAlmDB with the Alarm DB
Manager from InTouch 8.0/9.X or you could try backing up the IT 7.11
DB and then using the Alarm DB Restore utility (Start\Programs\Wonderware\InTouch\Alarm DB Restore).
-
InTouch
8.0/9.X can do normal InTouch security, OS Security (connecting the
users in the NT Users/Groups to the InTouch Application) or
ArchestrA Security (security at the Industrial Application Server
level). Review the document about Security in InTouch 8.0.
