A low cost, flexible, scalable approach to basic MES functionality!

The modular nature of Wonderware’s Production Events Module (PEM) enables a scalable approach to building applications to collect data on product genealogy and production history. Small applications that target specific production issues or regulatory requirements can be quickly and easily implemented. These applications can then grow to accommodate a larger scope or enhanced functionality. In this way, the Wonderware® Production Events Module enables incremental, low-risk deployment of increased application functionality as requirements evolve.  PEM offers a viable, cost-effective alternative to the complex, large-scale, high-cost projects that are traditionally associated with MES implementations.

PEM provides a set of Application Object templates for use in the Wonderware® Industrial Application Server. Each PEM Object exposes a series of production attributes that are recorded when a specified production event occurs. The production attributes associated with each object vary with the function of the specific object, capturing the necessary information to describe the production event.  Customers using PEM can record things such as:

  • Consumption of raw materials

  • Production of intermediate and finished lots or batches

  • Transfer of material between operations

  • Registration of equipment parameters during processing

  • Registration of responsible personnel during shift changes

Additionally, because PEM utilizes a Microsoft SQL Server database for storage it ensures support for industry standards, easy integration and scalability with low cost of ownership. To reduce the cost of business-to-manufacturing integration and support standardization efforts, the structure of the PEM production database follows the naming conventions and modeling structures of the ISA-95 “Enterprise-Control System Integration” standard. PEM Objects represent information defined in the ISA-95 Production Performance category.

Once data is collected as part of the open database structure, the ability to generate reports becomes simple.  The Wonderware Production Events Module offers out-of-the-box reporting capabilities for product and production history through Wonderware's SuiteVoyager Web analysis software for production and performance management. Any person in the organization can immediately and securely access and analyze:

  • Individual material or production resource consumption

  • Events related to specific process segments, equipment or personnel

  • Actual quantities and parameters for individual product or material lots

  • Forward and reverse genealogy reporting for raw materials and finished products

PEM reporting components within the SuiteVoyager portal allow users to link production history to a wide range of other critical plant information including: real-time and historical production data, key performance indicators (KPIs), real-time statistical process control (SPC) charts, equipment downtime information, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) calculations and batch management information.  Additionally, SuiteVoyager content can also be hosted in other portals, providing smooth integration of PEM reporting applications with existing enterprise information portals.
