ACP ThinManager®
Version 2.6 Now Available
Managing
a Thin Client environment to minimize costs requires that the IT
department have the right tools. ACP's ThinManager® lets you
configure, maintain, upgrade and replace Thin Client devices on
your network quickly and efficiently. Its intuitive
Windows®-like interface provides At-A-Glance Management of all
connected ThinManager Ready Thin Clients and terminal servers.
ACP is one of the only companies that has been
providing full featured Thin Client management software,
ThinManager, since the 90's. Their unique technology is embedded
into products from many well-known computer manufacturers,
allowing them to bring to market superior Thin Client devices.
When combined with ACP's ThinManager, each client has
performance and features unmatched by products from any other
company.
At its core, ThinManager is a tool that provides
complete management of the Thin Clients on your network. It does
this in two ways. First, by managing server connections. A
ThinManager server actually monitors active Thin Client sessions
to make sure each session is running at peak efficiency. Smart
Session’s load balancing will actually designate resources based
on need.
Secondly, ThinManager is a client management
program that downloads the necessary software to allow
ThinManager Ready Thin Clients to run on your network.
ThinManager actually loads the ACP operating system and any
selected client-side modules onto each Thin Client connected to
the network, thus enabling each client to operate as the network
administrator determines.

But ThinManager provides more than an advanced
server connection and Thin Client management tools.
Multi-Session with Applink allows ThinManager to provide clients
the ability to run separate sessions on multiple servers. This
gives you the ability not only to run multiple programs on your
Thin Clients but to house the applications on multiple servers.
When you match this technology with Smart Session, ThinManager
will make sure each session is run on the most efficient server
possible. Many network administrators rely on Citrix® to add
this functionality but, with ThinManager, you won’t need to run
an extra program. Now, ThinManager is available in Version 2.6
with even more powerful features available to help you manage
your Thin Client installations.
ACP's ThinManager® Version 2.6 Now Includes:
-
New - WinTMC ThinManager Client for
Windows®
ACP has released WinTMC, a ThinManager compatible client for
Microsoft Windows operating systems. It provides personal
computers with the same functionality as ThinManager Ready
Terminals. With the addition of WinTMC, ThinManager
provides a complete solution for organizations that need to
use PCs as part of their terminal server network.
-
New - SmartSession Queuing
ACP has improved its SmartSession load balancing by adding
Queuing so that ThinManager Thin Clients will switch to
backup SmartSession terminal servers in an orderly fashion.
-
New - Multicast
Multicast provides the ability for an unlimited number of
terminals to boot simultaneously from the same data stream.
This feature reduces the amount of network traffic and
reduces the amount of load on the ThinManager Server when
multiple terminals are booting concurrently. This
functionality is especially useful for low bandwidth
connections and highly utilized networks. Multicast is
only available on terminals with ACP Boot Loader Version 5.0
and later. No local terminal configuration is needed to use
Multicast.
-
New - Terminal Server Session
Selecting a terminal server in the ThinManager tree and the
Connect tab in the Details pane will automatically start a
session on the terminal server. This can be used to
administer a terminal server from within ThinManager. The
configuration for this feature is accessed in the RemoteView
drop down menu by selecting Session Options. Options include
video mode, color depth, auto login, and access to local
drives.
-
New - Terminal Server Performance Graphs
Selecting a terminal server in the ThinManager tree and the
Graph tab in the Details pane will display a graph of
terminal server memory and CPU usage. When a Terminal Server
Group is selected in the tree, selecting the Server Rank tab
will display a graph of terminal server load for all
terminal servers in the group. Up to 1 hour of historical
load information is stored for each server.
-
New - Touch Screen Calibration
Touch Screen Modules now include a Five Point Touch Screen
Calibration for greater accuracy.
See Calibrate Touch Screen for details.
-
New - Browse Button for Initial Programs
The selection of Initial Programs and AppLink programs are
made easier with the addition of a Browse button for program
selection.
-
New - RDP Experience Module
This module allows the user to set the RDP Experience
options when using Windows 2003 terminal servers. Options
include: Allow Desktop Background, Show Window Contents
While Dragging, Allow Menu and Window Animation, and Allow
Themes. In order to use these features, they must be enabled
by using the Windows Group Policy Editor.
-
New - Time Zone Redirection Module
This module allows the correct local time to be displayed
based on the time zone where the terminal is located. This
module should be used when the terminal server is located in
a different time zone than the terminal and the correct
local time is desired.
-
Improved - Share Keyboard and Mouse Master
Module
The Share Keyboard and Mouse Master module has been modified
to allow for interactive shadowing of the master terminal.
While the master is being shadowed, sharing of the local
keyboard and mouse will be disabled during the shadow
period.
-
Improved -Share Keyboard and Mouse Slave
Module
The user can explicitly enter which terminals can be used as
a master terminal.
