The MightyMount has been a perfected product for many
years so when
Q-mation approached a
local Class 2 Medical Device Manufacturer with our
offering, we could not have imagined that the meeting
would lead to the development of a brand new
MightyMount offering from STRONGARM. Leveraging an
already great product and
the amazing design capabilities of STRONGARM,
Q-mation
worked to develop a new offering that met the specific
needs of our c
ustomer while expanding the MightyMount
offering to countless other applications.
The MightyMount is the first ever “machine-grade” display and keyboard mounting. In sharp contrast to “office grade” products, the MightyMount is built from sturdy cast aluminum for demanding industrial applications. Vertical positioning is quick and secure with a positive ratchet lock and heavy-duty release handle. Incredibly, the display and keyboard stay perfectly level as they travel vertically. Swiveling action at either end allows the display and keyboard to be positioned precisely and to even fold tight to the mounting surface. The tilting display mounting accepts the industry standard VESA pattern, and the keyboard tray is available with a detachable mouse tray. It is this proven product that became the launch pad for the new Counterbalanced MightyMount.
The process of developing this prospect began in 2002 and 2003 when the customer began looking at display/keyboard mounting options for their Blood Centrifuge systems that were sold to small medical labs all over the world. During the long course of the evaluation, STRONGARM was considered against Ergotron and Innovative Office Products as a contender for standardization. As the evaluation continued, the customer came to favor the STRONGARM MightyMount over the competition because of the extreme quality and durability of the arm and the professionalism of the team from Q-mation. The only issue preventing an order was that the MightyMount would need to be reconfigured to be a counterbalanced arm (the standard MightyMount does not incorporate this feature). A simple request but one that would require a significant re-design of the current product.
In May of 2004 the decision was made to begin working with STRONGARM and the STRONGARM design team went into action to develop a system to meet this important customer's needs. The first prototype was delivered in July of 2004 and the customer was extremely satisfied. It would seem that the process would end here but the management of STRONGARM felt that the design could be improved. Always striving to provide the perfect system, STRONGARM went back to the design table and in September of 2004 an improved unit was delivered that again met the customer's needs but also met the stringent requirements of the STRONGARM quality team. A brand new product was created and the process of providing this new arm moved a significant step forward.
The final hurdle was a visit by the customer quality team to insure that the STRONGARM manufacturing process would meet with the stringent ISO9000 quality standards required. In October of 2004 the process was complete and the path was paved for the first orders of this brand new product. The first order was placed in December of 2004 for 150 units and it is anticipated that in 2005 alone, an additional 900 arms will be delivered.
